Chelsea Legend Didier Drogba Seal MLS Move to Montreal Impact

Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has signed for Major League Soccer side Montreal Impact.

The 37-year-old left Stamford Bridge this summer after playing 381 games and winning four Premier League titles across two spells with the London club.

     

Drogba is the Ivory Coast's all-time top scorer, with 65 goals in 105 international appearances.

Montreal president Joey Saputo said the signing made it "one of the biggest days in club history".

He added: "It's an honour to welcome Didier Drogba to the Impact.

"From the first conversation I had with him, I felt that he really wanted to play in Montreal.

"His arrival will be beneficial in every aspect."

Drogba will be a designated player at the Canadian side, which means his wages will not be restricted by the MLS salary cap.

Impact, MLS members since 2012, finished bottom of the table last season.

Drogba follows former Chelsea team-mate Frank Lampard in moving to the North American league, with the 37-year-old having joined New York City.

Martins fires Sounders to the top of MLS Log

Obafemi Martins came off the bench in the 61st minute and 12 minutes later doubled his team’s lead as the Seattle Sounders beat Dallas 3-0 to regain the overall Major League Soccer points lead.

      

Late in the 55th minute, Neagle took a pass from Brad Evans, ghosted towards the left side of the penalty area and drilled a 20-yard shot into the far right corner past goalkeeper Dan Kennedy.

Martins, wearing a mask to protect a surgically repaired broken nose, made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute with his seventh of the season before Gonzalez scored in second-half stoppage time to secure a comfortable win and move Seattle to 29 points, one point ahead of D.C. United atop the table. United play at Orlando City on Sunday.

Elsewhere, New England Revolution got goals two minutes apart to start the second half as they defeated Chicago Fire 2-0.

After playing a goalless first half, the Revolution won a corner kick in the 48th minute. Chris Tierney sent the ball to the front edge of the six-yard box, but Andy Dorman's header floated high towards an unmarked Diego Fagundez. His drilled shot went inside the far post to open the scoring.

Two minutes later, Fagundez played a free-kick to Teal Bunbury at the edge of the 18-yard box. Bunbury fired wide toward the far post and Charlie Davies got his head on the shot to redirect it in.

The victory moves New England to within four points of Eastern Conference leader DC United.
