Gatlin becomes fifth fastest 200m Sprinter ever after winning 19.57 seconds

Justin Gatlin becomes fifth fastest 200m runner of all time, at the age of 33
    Media preview
Justin Gatlin broke the track record and recorded a personal best as he sprinted over the line first in the 200 metres at the USATF Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon on Sunday.

The 33-year-old Olympic gold medalist and world champion from Orlando crossed the line in 19.57 seconds to record the fifth fastest finish in history at Hayward Field.

Those faster are Usain Bolt (19.19), Yohan Blake (19.26), Michael Johnson (19.32) and Walter Dix (19.53).

Gatlin, who has four Olympic medals to his name - the last won when he came third at London 2012, beat training partner Isiah Young, who clocked 19.93, and two-time Olympian Wallace Spearmon, who finished in 20.10, with the trio all heading to the World Championships in Beijing in August.

Oliseh Advises NFF' Bring Super Eagles matches to Lagos

Ex-Super Eagles midfielder, Sunday Oliseh has advised that the nations senior national team will perform better playing inside the National Stadium Lagos.
        http://encomium.ng/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/sunday-olishe-oliseh-650x400.png
Oliseh in an interview with Brila FM noted that the pressure from Lagos fans would suffice to spur the Eagles to giving their best in any match.

He further stated that it was more difficult during his days to represent the country that present time.

“It’s a lot easier now to play for Nigeria and I guess that is one of the reasons we are not doing so well now. In those days, you go to the National Stadium, Lagos in front 100, 000 fans. After 20 minutes, you have not scored, the fans go crazy and your family lives in Lagos; that is pressure. When you go to the Africa Cup of Nations or the World Cup and you know that second
is not enough; that is pressure. When you have to play and the future of your family is at stake; that is pressure.

“I’m overtly telling them that if we want to go back to the top; we need to bring the Super Eagles back to Lagos.

"If England have an important match to play, they play you at Wembley because that is where they have the greatest number of fans and that is where it becomes emotional for the players. The National Stadium is our own Wembley. I played for Nigeria for 10 years and we never lost at the National Stadium. That shows you how mythical it was to play there. The players need that kind of atmosphere to perform.”

Liverpool Breaks Bank for Firmino has he Signs Five-year-Deal with the Reds

The Brazil international has agreed a five-year contract, worth more than a £100,000 per week.
He requires a work permit and will complete the formalities of a medical at Anfield once the Copa America is over.
    Media preview
Firmino, who had been linked with Manchester United, has been Liverpool’s top target for the summer window and completing the transfer is a statement of intent.

The Reds will pay £22m up front as part of the transfer.
nly Andy Carroll, at £35m in January 2011, has cost more than Firmino, the 23-year-old, who should have little trouble settling into the Liverpool dressing room, given he will meet compatriots Lucas Leiva and Philippe Coutinho.

It is also a statement of support from manager Brendan Rodgers, who will start the season under scrutiny following the dismal end to the last campaign.

Liverpool had sent a delegation to the Copa America and Ian Ayre, the club’s chief executive, wrapped up the deal in Santiago – where Brazil are based ahead of their quarter-final with Paraguay on Saturday – during the early hours of Wenesday morning.
It has been a hectic start to the summer window for Liverpool, who have set the pace in terms of signings.

They have completed three Bosman moves for James Milner, Danny Ings and Adam Bogdan and also secured the £3.5million addition of Charlton youngster Joe Gomez.

Nathaniel Clyne, the Southampton right back, is also on course to move to Liverpool and a striker is a top priority, though they have not made any progress in terms of moving for Christian Benteke, with the Aston Villa striker having a £32.5million release clause.

LIVERPOOL’S RECORD SIGNINGS
1) Andy Carroll – £35m – January 2011
2) Roberto Firmino – £29m – June 2015
3) Adam Lallana – £25m – July 2014
4) Luis Suarez – £22.8m – January 2011
5) Fernando Torres – £20.2m – July 2007

Enyeama Turn's down NNF Disciplinary Committee Invitation

Super Eagles Goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama failed to honour the invitation of the Nigeria Football Federation Organizing and Disciplinary Committee.

The Lille of France number-one was invited by the committee after his "provocative comments" on regarding Kaduna an unsafe venue for the Super Eagles AFCON qualifying game against Chad.

Although he is yet to give a reason why he didn't honour the invitation, Coach of the senior national team Stephen Keshi who was also invited to explain his link with the Ivory Coast job said he has no information on the matter.

“No I am not aware. I only know about my own invitation. You can ask the
NFF officials they should be able to tell you,” he said.

Mayweather Announces Two Candidates For Fight

Barely two weeks since Floyd Mayweather Jr. outpointed Marcos Maidana to unify welterweight world titles, the pound-for-pound king has set his next fight date.
                 mayweather
Mayweather will fight an opponent to be determined on Sept. 13, Mayweather Promotions chief executive Leonard Ellerbe told ESPN.com on Monday night.
“Floyd will go on Sept. 13 and we looking at who he’s going to fight and where he is going to fight,” Ellerbe said. “Obviously, Las Vegas is his home and the MGM Grand is always the leading candidate but we will take a look at our other options.”

The Showtime pay-per-view fight will be the fourth of a six-bout deal worth around $200 million that Mayweather (46-0, 26 KOs) signed with Showtime/CBS in early 2013.

Although Mayweather defeated Maidana by majority decision in one of the toughest fights of his career on May 3 at the MGM Grand – where he has fought nine times in a row — he gave strong consideration to accepting an offer to fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Ellerbe said that Mayweather would again consider fighting in New York for the first time in his career this fall.
“[Barclays Center chief executive] Brett [Yormark] and those guys at the Barclays Center made a tremendous offer for the Maidana fight and I’m sure they’ll be looking to be in the Floyd Mayweather business again come September, but the MGM is Floyd’s home and they are always the leading candidate,” Ellerbe said.

Ellerbe said they have not yet determined Mayweather’s Sept. 13 opponent.
“We’re looking at opponents now,” he said. “In the next two weeks we’ll have that part figured out.”

There was a lot of postfight discussion about a Mayweather-Maidana rematch because of how competitive and entertaining the fight was. Mayweather said immediately afterward that he would consider fighting the Argentine brawler again and Maidana, of course, said he would like another crack at him.

AC Milan: Sinisa Mihajlovic replaces Filippo Inzaghi as coach

AC Milan have appointed former Serbia boss Sinisa Mihajlovic as their new coach after sacking Filippo Inzaghi.

Former Yugoslavia defender Mihajlovic, 46, has signed a two-year deal after leaving Sampdoria earlier this month.

Inzaghi, 41, who played for Milan from 2001 until his retirement in 2012, replaced former team-mate Clarence Seedorf as Milan coach last June.
Milan finished in 10th place in Serie A, 35 points behind champions Juventus, after only 13 wins in 2014-15.

Mihajlovic played for Roma, Sampdoria, Lazio and Inter Milan during a 20-year senior career in which he won 63 international caps.
Having retired while at Inter, he began his coaching career there as assistant to Roberto Mancini.
He had brief spells in charge at Bologna, Catania and Fiorentina before he was appointed coach of

Serbia in April 2012, winning seven and losing eight of his 19 matches in charge.
Mihajlovic joined Sampdoria in November 2013 and took them to 12th place that season, improving to seventh place last term.

Inzaghi, meanwhile, became Milan youth-team coach after retiring as a player before succeeding Seedorf, who only lasted five months in the role.

AC Milan have won 18 Serie A titles and seven European Cups.

Nigerian footballer David Faramola Oniya collapse and died in Malaysia

This is sad! I understand the fact that David Faramola Oniya is not the first player to have collapsed while playing (hunting for his daily bread) and eventually pass on. To mention a few similar incidence, Marc-Vivien Foe of Cameroun during a Confederations Cup game in 2003, and recently Belgium lost two players in similar fashion this year.

The death of this Nigerian footballer who plies his trade for T-Team, a club in Malaysia during a friendly game against Kelantan on Saturday 13th June 2015 came as a rude shock to many including his friends and Nigerians at large especially those who understand the ''hustle'' and the search for greener pasture.

I visited his Facebook page and realized that many who were sending in their condolences do not know David from Adam. Nigerians, colleagues and many others he had had contact with during his days on earth could not hold back but drop a line.

According to reports, he had barely had contact with the ball, in fact he had not played five minutes before he slumped and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The essence of this write-up is not to join in the blame game, however, we won't delve into the blame game by his club Chief Executive CEO Syahrizan Mohd Zain who felt the player would have survived if only he had received adequate and prompt attention.

All that would not wake the dead! We can only send our prayers and that is what many of David's ''friends'' at large are doing now.

Enyeama says Goodbye to Super Eagles of Nigeria

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, says he will retire from the Super Eagles after the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2017.

He said he had been on the scene since 2002, adding that there was every reason for him to give way for others to take over.

Interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday, Enyeama, who is also the Super Eagles captain, explained that the desire to give younger goalkeepers the opportunity to develop themselves informed his decision to retire from the national team.

“I can’t keep doing the same thing forever; there is going to be a time I have to stop and give it up to some other persons. I am the only face here since 2002, but 2017 Nations Cup finals will be my last game. I just said my target, anything can happen after,” he added.

The Eagles goal tender explained that the immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, prevented him from retiring from the team after it failed to qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Enyeama told the NAN that his wife and pastor also prevailed on him to drop the plan.
He further stated “I actually wanted to stop, it wasn’t a rumour. Nigeria is blessed with great goalkeepers, just that we need to give them confidence. Nobody gave me a chance when I started, I was a rookie also; I belt it up, I worked hard for it and became the big person that nobody wants to lose. What changed my mind was the passion of Nigerians. I had a lot of calls, my governor, Akpabio.

Alot of people talked with me. These things, you don’t just ignore and my wife also talked with me. My wife didn’t want me to leave yet. I talked with my pastor and he said if everybody said stay, why not. So, I decided to continue, but then, there is going to be a time to call it quits.”
