Former Besiktas, Chelsea and Newcastle striker Demba Ba has
officially joined Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua.
Demba BaThe 30 year old took to his official Instagram page
to reveal the news posting with a Shanghai Shenhua shirt accompanied by the
words: “Next stop is Shanghai”.
A host of EPL sides were interested with the Senegal forward
but reports have it that the Chinese outfit offered more in wages and bonuses
that others clubs who were gunning for him. Shenhua coughed out £10 million for
Ba who will now look to set the Chinese league on fire after enjoying success
in English football.
The ambitious Chinese outfit who once house powerhouses like
French striker Nicolas Anelka and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has added Ba and
Sissoko to its ranks in a bid to fortify its team for the challenges ahead.
Ba will earn a reported 6million Euros a year but with this
huge investment comes the pressure to achieve result on the picth, a similar
situation Drogba and Anelka faced while playing for the side. Although,
management has changed since then with former owner Zhu Jun’s exit after the
sale of the club to Greenland, a real estate giant early last year.
It remains to be seen if apart from being China’s most
famous football club abroad, they can rival the likes of Beijing Guoan or Guangzhou Evergrande for
success on the pitch.
